On a day off, surrounded by snow and watching my kids, I decided to indulge in a nostalgic activity: organizing my cherished collection of Garbage Pail Kids cards from series one to ten. These quirky Topps cards, gifted to me by a co-worker, hold a special place in my heart and I often revisit them. I store them in modern Trapper Keeper binders, but I’m not a fan of their plastic quality and design. Instead, I’ve started collecting vintage Mead binders, particularly the Rad Dog collection, which features vibrant graphics inspired by extreme sports from the late 80s and early 90s.
I plan to use these nostalgic binders to house my loose trading cards and ephemera, creating a display on a new bookshelf by my desk. I selected three favorite binders, aiming to keep them organized without overstuffing. The first binder, featuring an electrified skater design, holds my most nostalgic series. The second binder, adorned with BMX graphics, contains series four through six, enhanced by the original owner’s fun stickers.
For the last series, seven to ten, Iโll have to combine them into one binder for now, as I lack enough vintage binders. Although I hope to collect series eleven and twelve someday, they are quite pricey. Overall, this project revitalizes my collection and allows for easy access to inspiring designs for future digital trading card projects.
