Islamist assailants kill over sixty Catholics in Congo

A tragic massacre attributed to the Allied Democratic Forces has resulted in at least 64 deaths in the St. Joseph of Manguredjipa Catholic Parish in North Kivu, Congo. Victims, many attending a wake, were attacked with firearms and hammers, and some homes were deliberately set on fire, indicating a premeditated act of terror. According to local sources linked to Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), local authorities have started burying the victims and are enacting new security measures in response to the violence. This incident underscores the ongoing threats faced by religious communities in the region. ACN’s statement on September 17 highlighted the severity of the situation and the need for increased protection for vulnerable populations amid ongoing unrest in the area.
