Gaza Faces Hunger: An Artificial Crisis.

Food security experts from the United Nations state that Gaza is currently experiencing a severe famine, affecting around 2 million Palestinians. Among those aiding in this crisis is the Gaza Soup Kitchen, led by Abe Ajrami, who coordinates efforts from the U.S. Ajrami characterizes the situation as “manmade starvation,” attributing the crisis to the Israeli government’s deliberate actions to use hunger as a weapon.

In an interview, Ajrami describes the profound despair felt by the people in Gaza, who have lost hope and view those who have died as fortunate compared to the living who endure relentless suffering. He challenges the narrative surrounding the crisis, asserting that the lack of food is a direct consequence of the blockade and military actions rather than an unforeseen disaster.

The Gaza Soup Kitchen operates 11 feeding centers, providing food to locals amid immense logistical challenges, including finding resources for cooking without electricity or gas. Ajrami highlights the difference between their operations and those of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, which he criticizes as ineffective and dangerously exploitative.

Despite recent international calls for recognizing Palestinian statehood, Ajrami argues that such action must lead to tangible changes on the ground, including sanctions against Israel for its ongoing occupation. He stresses the need for both Palestinians and Israelis to seek coexistence and mutual understanding to pave the way for a viable future.
