A Gaza Physician Shares the Atrocities of Hunger

Dr. Tarek Loubani, an emergency room specialist from Canada, has been volunteering in Gaza, where he was shot by an Israeli sniper in 2018. Recently working at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, he describes the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, where reports indicate that one in three individuals faces starvation. Critically, 80% of child fatalities are attributed to starvation, as aid delivered is grossly inadequate. While U.S. officials, like Ambassador Mike Huckabee, celebrate the distribution of millions of meals through the Gaza Humanitarian Fund (GHF), Dr. Loubani disputes these claims, asserting that the reality on the ground reflects extreme famine rather than the touted success of aid efforts.

He highlights the horror he witnesses daily, noting that all his patients exhibit severe malnutrition, with no signs of surplus weight remaining. In a passionate interview, he condemns U.S. leadership for perpetuating what he describes as a genocide, demanding accountability from those in power. He states that the international recognition of a Palestinian state is redundant; Palestinians need real support, not just acknowledgment of their existence. Dr. Loubani also stresses that grassroots activism, protests, and political engagement are vital for exerting pressure on Israel and its allies to reassess their actions in Gaza. He emphasizes that sustained activism can lead to substantial changes, urging that every effort counts in the fight against the humanitarian crisis.
